In what many believe to be confirmation that Barnes & Noble intend to keep the Nook Color around at a reduced price in order to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire eReader tablet, Best Buy today moved to strike the price of the popular mobile device by $50, bringing it down to $199, the same price as Amazon’s popular new toy.
It’s highly believed that this will be the new price that Barnes & Noble intended to drop the Nook Color to on a permanent basis, with the company expected to make an announcement regarding the newest range of Nook devices on Monday. Expected to be announced is an all new Nook, apparently named the Nook Tablet, a direct competitor for the Kindle Fire, which is expected to boast 16GB of built-in memory and expansion slots for increased capacity. At present, the Kindle Fire will only ship with 8GB of built-in memory and no expansion slots.
While Best Buy may have inadvertently spilled the beans a tad early as far as Barnes & Noble are concerned, the premature price drop is certainly something that customers contemplating purchasing a Nook Color in the next 24 hours or so will want to snap up.
…or they could simply wait until Monday, when the price drop will become official…
